Tim Barber – Interview with NYC based photographer and curator
Originally from Dublin, Ireland, I have lived in England since the early 1990s. I worked as an editorial photographer before taking my MFA in 2001, when I changed my focus to personal projects and exhibitions. For the last fifteen years, I have been using myself in my work, which crosses the disciplines of theatre, performance, photography and film. I am both the director and performer as I develop and play characters that are authentic and recognisable. Though they sometimes lie on the border between psychologically disturbing and a little bit funny.
Most recent solo exhibitions were at Francesca Maffeo Gallery, UK (2018), Hestercombe Gallery, UK (2017), Bohuslans Museum, Sweden (2016). Some recent group shows were Turner Contemporary, (2015), Palazzo Strozzi, Florence, (2014) and the Perth Institute for Contemporary Arts, Australia in 2012. My work is in the permanent collection of The Gosta Serlachius Fine Art Foundation, Finland, The Museum of Fine Art, Houston, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, The National Media Museum, Bradford and the Wilson Centre for Photography, London, as well as private collections.
