Nando Machado’s photojournalistic work on the wildlife selfie phenomenon has been published in national and international media outlets such as BBC, Guardian, and Spiegel, amongst others. This project mainly focused on the Amazon, and allowed NGO’s to promote campaigns and raise awareness of the concerns of using wildlife for entertainment and in tourism. It was also used to illustrate and support peer-reviewed scientific papers.
Nando Machado’s wildlife selfie project has been shortlisted and highly commended at European Wildlife Photographer Of The Year, British Photography Awards, and Tokyo International Foto Awards, and his landscapes at International Photography Awards, Chromatic Awards, and featured in the HIPA competition book.
In this talk, Nando will discuss these projects and share unpublished material, highlighting the ethical and logistical challenges of investigative photojournalistic assignments and the importance in finding a purpose to your work.
