It’s that time of year again when Derby city opens Format Photofestival to celebrate photography and what a year it is too. This festival began in 2004.  It organizes a year-round programme of international commissions, open calls, residencies, conferences and collaborations in the UK. If you want to network, this is the place to go. There are a whole host of things you can do to get involved from going to talks, masterclasses, portfolio reviews – there are some places left but hurry.

As Lucy Soutter wrote “Since then photography has grown to encompass many manifestations of the “crooked” image through hybrid forms and visual practices and no longer worries about narrative versus abstraction, expressive versus objective.”

This year’s festival is about Forever and NowFORMAT19 will look at how photography is evolving and moving forward, while looking at the past and how it is being constantly reinterpreted.

Don’t miss it. Open from 15th March till the 14th April 2019. At the London Institute of Photography, we love a good old photo festival and create important conversations in our photography classes.
